LPT: butter too cold to spread over your bread? Run the butter knife under hot water for a few seconds. It should melt the butter enough to spread evenly. Eta: I live in the Midwest and keep the butter in a covered dish on the counter. It’s still too hard to spread evenly during the colder months.
