What shows ran for way more seasons than you thought? Smallville 10 seasons. Watched the first few seasons when I was young, did not know it went on for so long. The Fairly OddParents 10 seasons. My inner child is angry that this show got so many seasons while Jimmy Neutron and Danny Phantom got shorted. But my adult brain knows that it is better those shows ended with dignity rather than get dragg…

TV show titles that made sense for the first few seasons, but not for later seasons A show’s title is usually meant to give you a general idea of what the show is about. But sometimes what the show started out as and what the show ended up becoming are different things, so a title that made sense at first can become increasingly outdated in later seasons, but the title usually has to be kept. For example, Smallville is named af…

Most well constructed seasons You know that feeling when you finish a season of a tv show and it’s clear that the showrunner knew exactly what they wanted that season to be and they were able to execute it well. When have you had that? I feel like Breaking Bad achieves that in every season except maybe season 1. But there are surely countless examples. submitted by /u…

TV series that had a dip in quality with a one or a few bad seasons, but bounced back with subsequent great seasons? Was thinking about all the great acclaimed television shows – The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, what have you. And then thinking about all the shows that fell apart by the end – Dexter, Game of Thrones, How I Met Your Mother. But are there any examples of television shows that had a significant dip in quality but ended up bouncing back? The …
Reality tv seasons with satisfying winners I’m a big fan of competition reality tv and a big factor for me enjoying the overall arc of the season is if the season has a satisfying winner, whether they be a strategic mastermind, an unlikely underdog, or just extremely likeable and fun to root for. What are some seasons of reality tv shows with really satisfying winners? I’m open to litera…

What do you prefer: traditional 20+ episode seasons, or the newer trend of 6-12 episode seasons? I’m personally a big, big fan of 20+ episode seasons. While the plot is advanced more slowly and there tend to be many filler episodes, it’s those episodes that are often the most creative and interesting. Moreover, characters are more fully developed in shows with 20+ episodes per season; we just get more screen time with them and get to see th…
Why is there so much time in between seasons of TV shows now? I remember pre-streaming when there would be 24 new episodes of a show every year, with less than a year between the end of one season and the start of the next. The show Lost is the first example that comes to mind. Now most shows are only 10 episodes or so and we have to wait 2-3 years in between seasons. What takes so long now? submitte…

Great seasons in mediocre shows Thought it would be fun to gather a list of great seasons nestled in what otherwise would be a very mediocre show. I’ll kick us off with some examples: Heroes season 1 Westworld season 1 Prison break seasons 1 and 2 Dexter seasons 1-4 The walking dead seasons 1 and 9 Supernatual seasons 1-5 submitted by /u/ManCrisp
Why did TV seasons get shorter? Now, obviously there’s been a big shift in the past 20 years with shorter cable shows gaining popularity in the 2000s and streamers emulating that in the 2010s. I understand the reasons that have driven that big change, but even before then, there was a gradual shift and I’ve always wondered what the reasons were. (Talking specifically about US …
