International Phone Line

International Phone Line Hello, I am based in the US but traveling to a different country every month. I need a phone plan which allows me to make/receive phone calls & texts to/from the US while I am away in South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, etc. So far, I am considering Zoom’s US and Canada Unlimited plan or their Global Select plan (not sure which is most relevant…

LPT: If you use a Wear OS smartwatch and a maps app on Android, set the location permissions on your phone to “allow all the time”. Otherwise it will just stop when the phone locks.

LPT: If you use a Wear OS smartwatch and a maps app on Android, set the location permissions on your phone to “allow all the time”. Otherwise it will just stop when the phone locks. Location usage on Android gets suspended in the background, i.e. when you lock the device. So in order to have your smartwatch still work as expected and continue to give you directions, set the permissions on the phone to “allow all the time” as opposed to “Allow only while using the app”. Took me a while to find. submitted by /u/Mixture…

Why I Always Travel with a Second Phone

Why I Always Travel with a Second Phone I’ve been lucky so far. I’ve never had my smartphone stolen. But I wanted to know: What if? So, I simulated the whole thing, switched off my smartphone, and tried to access all my important documents. It turns out that it’s not so easy – especially if you use 2FA almost everywhere. That’s when I realized the importance of having a backup plan, e…

Everyone Hates Phone Cases, but we need them. What if there was a case that used real phone materials?

Everyone Hates Phone Cases, but we need them. What if there was a case that used real phone materials? As the title says, phone cases suck but we all need to use them. Despite the fact that we want to experience the look and feel of the real, naked phone. What if there was a thin phone case that used the same materials as the phone itself? Such that it had the exact same look and feel as the real phone; with just a touch of added bulk. Picture th…

RCS on every phone

My wife and I have iPhones, too, but we are willing to use a 3rd party app like WhatsApp. The kids’ grandma/pa have been using Android only for 10+ years and do not want to change their phones. And in our family group chat, we always have to struggle. Please Apple, support …

How old is your phone?

How old is your phone? I’ve read an article on a tech site asking the same question and posted the question on r/iphone. Asking r/android sans poll since it’s not an option, to see if there was a contrast (so far the vast majority of iPhone users had theirs for less than a yr., but a surprising number had 5+ yr marks too). submitted by /u/nicekid81

LPT: Your phone can send scheduled texts On an Android, press and gold the send button, then you can schedule when that text is sent. It’s great for people like me that forget birthdays. Iphone does it too, but I don’t have one, so you’d have to google how. submitted by /u/Pauler_Bear

Photograhy newbie here. Looking for an upgrade from my phone

Photograhy newbie here. Looking for an upgrade from my phone I’ve been absolutely loving the camera system on my S23 Ultra, but the more I play with it, the more I start seeing its limitations. Especially when it comes to telephoto, its 69 mm and 230 mm modules feel really lacking in terms of colour rendering and noise performance. Those tiny 1/3.52″ sensors just take terrible shots compared to the main w…
