With a credit card and 6 months no interest (or analogous plans), how does it know what payments go to which purchases when you make purchases over months?

With a credit card and 6 months no interest (or analogous plans), how does it know what payments go to which purchases when you make purchases over months? So say if I still owed $50 out of $500 and it’s mostly been paid off over 5 months, am I better off paying all of it before I make another purchase? But if I buy something else for $200, so now I owe $250, does that mess up the previous arrangement? submitted by /u/jojo_the_mofo
