Anyone here recommending VSBSX Vanguard Short-Term Treasury Index Fund?

Anyone here recommending VSBSX Vanguard Short-Term Treasury Index Fund? I thought I should start investing in short term treasuries to make my portfolio safer (I’m at 80% VOO), but I see VSBSX has averaged just over 1% over the last 10 years, far lower than inflation. I almost feel like CDs are a better hedge, but I know that’s ultra-conservative too. submitted by /u/herm_b

I inherited a paid-off property. Should I rent it out or sell it and put the proceeds in index funds? I would probably need to put maybe $50k to update kitchen and bathrooms if I were to keep it. Property taxes and insurance are both < $1k a year. Rent in the area goes for $2,000 - $2,500 a month. Which would be a better financial decision? Edit: the estimate to sell as is would be around $325k Edit edit: the insurance and tax are as of this ye...

Why Invest In Index Funds?

Why Invest In Index Funds? I was answering a post for someone else about index funds and it reminded me of a book I read. I think it’s important to understand why index funds are so good by understanding where and why they were created. I thought this group would be interested in it since we suggest them so often in this forum. The book is called “The Little Book of Commo…

LPT use the UV index instead of temperature when assessing risk to sun exposure

LPT use the UV index instead of temperature when assessing risk to sun exposure The UV Index is designed on a linear scale, directly proportional to the intensity of UV radiation, and adjusting for wavelength based on what causes human skin to sunburn. This is obviously location and time of year dependent, but on the northern hemisphere during summer where the temperatures can stay around the daily high point between 1PM an…

Looking for a way to index offline storage media. Is there an app for that? I’ve been avid photographer, videographer, and drone pilot, and I’m finding it difficult to know which set of removable storage media (mostly SD or CF cards) has certain content that I want to review. I’m looking for an app that will be able to store a static but updateable index of all my offline storage media (dozens) and allow me to refer to…
