Anyone here recommending VSBSX Vanguard Short-Term Treasury Index Fund?

Anyone here recommending VSBSX Vanguard Short-Term Treasury Index Fund? I thought I should start investing in short term treasuries to make my portfolio safer (I’m at 80% VOO), but I see VSBSX has averaged just over 1% over the last 10 years, far lower than inflation. I almost feel like CDs are a better hedge, but I know that’s ultra-conservative too. submitted by /u/herm_b

401k fund investments after leaving a company

401k fund investments after leaving a company I have a 401k plan with a company I just parted ways with. I’m 34. It has just shy of 150k. About 60% of my mix is in a retirement target fund and 5% in bonds. The last 35% is in “very aggressive” or “aggressive” funds of my own choosing. They have been in those accounts for several years and have performed extremely well. However, now that I am…

Should we fund IRA or put more in brokerage account We file MFJ. Normally we fund both our ROTH IRA without issues of our income but 2024 has been really good to us. We are definitely over the Roth income limits. We are in sales and both hit grand slams this year. Next year should be average years. We don’t backdoor because we have tons of rollover ira from former employer. So pro-rata rules com…

Saving for home maintenance and emergency fund

Saving for home maintenance and emergency fund This is probably a relatively simple question, but I wanted to get some takes on it. I always keep a good emergency fund. I keep an approximate six months of living expenses at all times (at least). I’m currently in the process of purchasing a house. I see that it’s recommended to save at least 1% of the house’s total cost for repairs. Do you…

Advice on using trust fund money Not sure if I’ll get answers to all my questions here, but hoping I can gain a little insight. I had an injury at birth due to medical negligence. My parents sued the doctor and settled out of court. So far I’ve received 4 annual payments of $40,000 each that started when I was 18. This money was primarily used to pay for my college tuition, and…

Where does an investor see the ETF vs Mutual Fund tax efficiency?

Where does an investor see the ETF vs Mutual Fund tax efficiency? Trying to understand how I as an investor see the efficiencies cited in ETFs & Tax Efficiency. I get that an EFT handle buys & sells differently than a mutual fun as cited in the article. Just not clear where I see these differences after I make a sale and file taxes. I have been using a tax preparer for a few decades, but I do not recall any de…

Stock Decisions? Large fund in single stock

Stock Decisions? Large fund in single stock When I was little, a family member invested in Microsoft in my name. It sat untouched, now 20 years later it’s worth about $25k. I can’t believe they let that money sit in one stock for so long, my parents are apathetic about investing and just didn’t mess with it. I don’t know what to do with it now. Is there going to be a massive tax hit if I …
