Seating in front of floor to ceiling windows?

Seating in front of floor to ceiling windows? I’m moving into this apartment soon and I’d really like to create three seating areas in this space (roughly 17ft x 17ft): a dining table to the right, a TV against the left wall paired with a couch facing it, and some kind of seating around the windows to really enjoy the light. A standard window bench would kind of cancel out the floor to ceil…

LPT: Chuck something random on the floor to remind you of a task tomorrow

LPT: Chuck something random on the floor to remind you of a task tomorrow If you have something you need to do the following day, chuck a random item on the floor and leave it there. The following morning when you see this random item lying in the middle of the room, it should remind you why it’s there and thus remind you of the task. It’s particularly handy late in the evening if you remember something right before b…

Need to replace risers and treads on my staircase, should I use a stain that splits the difference between my floor and bannister?

Need to replace risers and treads on my staircase, should I use a stain that splits the difference between my floor and bannister? The floors at the top and bottom are light. I’d like to keep the bannister and newel post as they are in really good condition. Wall color is staying. I’m thinking of splitting the difference stain wise and white risers, but I’m an engineer, not a an interior designer The treads got hacked all up for the previous owner to throw a carpet on. Sugg…

Help with shower floor tile

Help with shower floor tile I’m having a hard time deciding on my shower floor tile. The large format tile in the pic is the floor tile and 2 of the 3 shower walls. The linear tile is an accent wall in the shower. I love the idea of a hexagon tile for the shower floor but is this one cohesive? It’s a tad bit lighter than the other 2 but considering this is on the floor, p…

Replacing hardwood floor with porcelain tile – bad move or potentially good?

Replacing hardwood floor with porcelain tile – bad move or potentially good? For an entryway/living room, would replacing hardwood floors with something like the above be “ok”? Personally, the checker marble-esque floor is my dream, but would it be…well…stupid to rip out hardwood floor to do so? Also, the hardwood floor would be repurposed for other rooms, so there won’t be any waste. Help? Thoughts? submitted by …

Floor plan A or B (or neither!)

Floor plan A or B (or neither!) Hey everyone, proud owner of my first apartment here. Since the floor plan is quite tiny and I’m new to interior design, I was hoping to get some feedback on my floor plan proposals. Option 1 gives me more freedom to add more chairs to the table (I’m thinking of buying a table that you can extend) and allows you to sit at the table in the sunli…

Reducing sound in open floor plan Anyone have suggestions to reduce sounds in an open floor plan house? Living and kitchen are one big room. As a nearsighted floor makeup doer: upgraded my makeup storage to match the rest of the furniture.

As a nearsighted floor makeup doer: upgraded my makeup storage to match the rest of the furniture. I am a near sighted person so traditional vanities have mirrors that are too far away, and seem too bulky for my current room. I also prefer the floor, even though I’ve had a bigger traditional vanity/dresser in my previous room. For the longest time I’ve kept my makeup stuff into a shoe box, but figured it was time to upgrade. Didn’t want to g…

Please help me pick out my bathroom floor tile! What are your thoughts on these tile floor options with this shower tile? Either way I think I’m going to do a diamond design. Bed frames that are flush to the floor? I’m having trouble finding a bed frame that is flat on the floor. I want something that does not allow for anything to slip under. We have dogs and the hair tumbleweeds just congregate under our bed and it’s the biggest pain to clean. Any ideas? submitted by /u/itsallinthebag
