How do I keep my photos organized? (Folder structure, sidecar files, digikam vs darktable)

How do I keep my photos organized? (Folder structure, sidecar files, digikam vs darktable) What I have been doing + the problem: I use a canon camera which numbers the images from IMG_0000 to IMG_9999. So far I have dumped every image I took into one folder and I had one subfolder for the edited images (I use RawTherapee to edit). I was using Digikam for this. I have taken less than 10000 images so, so far there weren’t any issues wit…

How do you organize your files? (Lightroom) Hey everyone, I could really use some advice on organizing my photography files and creating a smoother workflow. Here’s where I stand: Key Files I have about 40 photos that I really love (and have sold a few). I’d like to save these files in a way that keeps the edits I’ve made in Lightroom (or another tool) but still allows for further adjus…

Do you keep your raw files and psd files or only raws?

Do you keep your raw files and psd files or only raws? I have my entire disk full of .psd files which take a lot of space. So my question, do photographers keep those files or only stick to raw files and re-edit picture if they ever need it in the future? Cause those files take A LOT of space compared to just keeping raws. submitted by /u/TheTiniestPeach

Watching Old X Files and Revival X-Files, makes you realize how lazy modern TV cinematography is

Watching Old X Files and Revival X-Files, makes you realize how lazy modern TV cinematography is A lot of TV nowadays seemed to be color corrected, tweaked in post-production, and shot on set with the simplest lighting set up possible. It’s like the lighting equivalent of Ikea. Of course not every show falls prey to this – and not every show in the past was well lit (far from it!) – but that’s my overriding impression. Perhaps I’m just nost…

Photographer sent me files that are 150 ppi at 8×10 size, can I still print them?

Photographer sent me files that are 150 ppi at 8×10 size, can I still print them? My sports team hired a photographer to take some team pics. But the files she sent aren’t very big–each portrait is about 600 kb up to 1.5 mb, so when I put them into a ppi checker online, it says that at 8 x 11 or 8 x 10, they’ll print at about 150 or 160 ppi. At 5 x 7 they go up to like 240. Is this normal and will I be able to make high qual…

Is there a device that can be used to transfer files only?

Is there a device that can be used to transfer files only? I’m looking for a device (USB C) that can be used to transfer images from my SD cards to a SSD, but I want just that function only. So not a laptop or iPad. Does this exist? Edit: I found this, which is what I’m talking about, but this one is USB A, and according to reviews, it’s really bad. Any alternatives? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ…

Is it weird that The X-Files is my “comfort” show?

Is it weird that The X-Files is my “comfort” show? X-Files seems like a pretty unconventional choice for a comfort show, given how dark, creepy and downright gross it can get at times but honestly that’s what it’s become for me. Maybe it’s the fact that I first started watching it in the 90s as a child, and associate with those warm, carefree and nostalgic times. That, coupled with the overall s…

There’s nothing like the gentle synth vibes of an X-Files binge.

There’s nothing like the gentle synth vibes of an X-Files binge. Is it just me or is this the perfect show to leave on in the background of your life? There’s something soothing about the lack of volume the shows possess. Yes you’ll get a scream, a gun shot, or a Scully/Mulder spat, and the occasional Duchovny trademark overacting. Other than that, it’s the low hums of a synth-gasm generating this solemn but …

How to manage deleted files on a Chromebook Illustration by Samar Haddad / The VergeLike Windows and macOS computers, Chromebooks handle file deletion in two steps. Initially, the files aren’t actually deleted, even though they disappear from view. They’re kept around in what is called the Trash, just in case you ever need them back, and then are wiped automatically after a certain amount…
