Help decorating around a taupe sofa

Help decorating around a taupe sofa We recently ordered a sofa for a new house, and chose the fabric color in the store. To be honest we’d looked at a ton of other sofas and swatches and were exhausted and probably choose too quickly. We just received the fabric swatch in the mail after some delays, and in our home you can definitely see more pink/purple undertones (hard to see f…

Question for professional interior designers: 1) which “sector” do you mainly specialize in and 2) does doing this as a career decrease your enjoyment of decorating/ designing your own spaces?

Question for professional interior designers: 1) which “sector” do you mainly specialize in and 2) does doing this as a career decrease your enjoyment of decorating/ designing your own spaces? I’ve been exploring a career shift to interior design for a while. I like to think that I have always 1) been rather design-oriented and 2) had a knack for decorating and space planning. (I’m aware that a lot more goes into interior design than just those aspects.) However, part of the reason I’m hesitant is that I don’t want to end up losing my…

Decorating loft apartment with low ceilings

Decorating loft apartment with low ceilings Me and my husband are moving into a loft apartment (rental) with 7.5 ft ceilings at the tallest + slanted ceilings in some places (there are skylights which help). Do you have any tips on how to decorate to make the ceiling not feel as low? The apartment has white walls and ceilings, light wood floors in the main room (kitchen, dining, living ro…

Just Finished Decorating my First Apartment.

Just Finished Decorating my First Apartment. I just moved out of my parents house a month ago. I spent a good portion of my job savings from this summer on decorating and furnishing my first home. I’m only 20 years old but I’ve always been a fan of traditional home decor instead of the all white and grey trend that is in style now. I would love to hear your opinion on how it turned out or …

Is “decorating” a kitchen table a thing?

Is “decorating” a kitchen table a thing? We have a very nice round kitchen table and chairs that gets little to no use, as we typically eat on the island or in the living room. Occasionally, we’ll put some flowers in the middle of the table but it still feels empty. Do people decorate their kitchen tables? Similar to having like decorative pillows in the bedroom, etc? If they do, any …

I’m (28F) a structural engineer with about 4 years of experience and I’ve thought about possibly transitioning into interior design/decorating. What would be the best way for me to make this transition?

I’m (28F) a structural engineer with about 4 years of experience and I’ve thought about possibly transitioning into interior design/decorating. What would be the best way for me to make this transition? The heavy technical aspect of engineering has burnt me out. I enjoy doing the 3D modeling but the calculation/problem solving side of it has gotten stressful and to be honest I don’t think I’m a fantastic engineer. I was also recently diagnosed with ADHD so I’m trying to really focus on the aspects of work that I think I’d enjoy the most to mak…

Finally decorating as an adult?

Finally decorating as an adult? So I’m 27F and since I moved out of my parents house 6 years ago I’ve always retained a love of childish things or things “not-adult-like” and like to display those things. Things like plushes or video games or anime figures. My room is full of things like that, but now that my roommates are moving and I’m getting a new one, I want to decorate t…
