Cropping with a high resolution camera vs prime lenses?

Cropping with a high resolution camera vs prime lenses? Cropping is obviously nothing new in the world of photography, but as we gain more and more megapixels each year it’s also starting to feel less destructive. Maybe the best example of this are cameras like the Fuji X100VI which provides you 40MPs along with the ability to jump from the fixed 35mm focal length to a 50mm focal length and finally …

Difference between cropping and zooming/different focal lengths?

Difference between cropping and zooming/different focal lengths? Apologies in advance if this is a dumb question; this might be an “explain like I’m five” situation. I often see people note how cameras with a higher megapixel count allow you to crop in to achieve a desired composition while editing, without losing too much quality in your pic. This makes sense to me. However, my question is about whether qual…

Any advice on cropping these?

Any advice on cropping these? I find the shiny wheel hub and the tiny bit of the passenger window that is visible in the B&W image draws attention away from the shafts of sunlight. In colour though, the light draws (my) attention appropriately. Is it a cropping/composition issue or an post-processing issue? Maybe B&W is not shock the way to go for this one? Help please 🙂

Cropping/Rule of Thirds Guidance Needed?

Cropping/Rule of Thirds Guidance Needed? Hi everyone! As a musician, photography is an important part of self-promotion. I really struggle with making decisions on my own when posting photos. I often get so stuck that I abandon the attempt to post completely; usually on the cropping part. I pull up an image to post on Instagram and then get all in my head about which crop looks best, t…

How do you feel about this cropping?

How do you feel about this cropping? I tend to like a crowded frame but am curious if many are bothered by it. A teacher once called my style “portional.” It was shot from a bridge at close range with a zoom lens and a lot was happening around me, there was only time to react before the scene changed. Second shot is the original Only recently discovered this sub and I’ve enjoyed s…

iPhone 14 Pro: Using 1x camera to take 48 MP photos and cropping them VS. using 2x and 3x cameras to take 12 MP photos without cropping

iPhone 14 Pro: Using 1x camera to take 48 MP photos and cropping them VS. using 2x and 3x cameras to take 12 MP photos without cropping When using iPhone 14 pro’s ProRAW mode, I’m able to take 48 MP photos using the 1x camera, which is equivalent to 24mm on a full-frame camera. The 2x and 3x lenses allow me to zoom in closer at 47mm and 77mm respectively, but they are 12 MP. Without taking into consideration of distortion and image compression caused by the telephoto focal le…

Trying out cropping

Trying out cropping Trying out Cropping So I was watching some videos recently and for the first time I am trying cropping on my photos. I just purchased a used Leica q1 and coming from a d800 shooting 50 or 85, I am not used to the 28. I have both dpg and monochrome jpgs, but I messed around with the dpg and produced this. Want to see thoughts or how I could impro…
