what is an aps-h sensor? (1.3x crop) and why is it no longer a thing? Hey guys! Been shooting for some time, but i’ve always been curious as to what an aps-h sensor is for & why was it discontinued? Whenever I go on camera decisions I always look at sensor types and forget about aps-h. When I click on it i’ll see multiple variations of the canon 1D series, a sigma quattro & a leica m8/m8.2 ( which this entire time…
Expressing crop percentage correctly? I’m having trouble understanding how to express crop percentage. If I have a 16mp original image and I crop away 3/4 of the frame, do I describe that as a “”25% crop”? Directly from the image I’m thinking of: 16 mp original (Fujifilm x-e2, apsc) and the final cropped version is 3.28mb. What crop is that? Thanks! submitted by /u/Embarrasse…

Does f2.8 on an ff gather more light vs f2.8 on crop? So, I basically saw a quote, and just was wondering if it is actually right. It said a f2.8 17 70mm aps c lens would be the same as an f4.0 28 105mm ff lens on a full frame. If this is true, then an f2.8 lens would gather more light on an ff then an equal f2.8 aps c lens on an aps c camera right? “The lens 17-70 F2.8 is a compact general-purpose…
Resolution dip with FF lens on crop sensor? Hi there! Been trying to find an answer online but nothing straight so far, so TIA – if you use a FF lens on an APSC sensor, I understand the image is cropped by 1.5 – so a 100mm FF lens on APSC camera has the equivalent reach of a 150mm APSC lens on APSC camera, but how does the resolution change, if at all, and by how much? If I buy a FF lens …
How would one recreate this unique crop and distortion? Super cool! Any ideas? Found this photo on John Vincent III’s Spotify profile. submitted by /u/SoggyLlamas
2 Questions – First, crop out the elements on the left? Second – if I wanted to print this – would you go metal or metallic paper, or something else? submitted by /u/prospectpico_OG
How well is the 70-200mm focal length for basketball? It just seems like 70mm might be a little much in some spots (I using a R7 so there is a crop factor) submitted by /u/oompaloompa_08
Would you crop this or crop it differently? The original photo is a vertical image (No. 1). I would like to convey the idea that the subject is walking away and will very soon disappears. I tried to crop it (No. 2) to emphasize the subject but I am not sure if it works or not to other people’s eyes. Thank you very much. submitted by /u/hmmm_1789
How does crop factor influence distortion when using a full-frame fisheye lens on an APSC body? https://preview.redd.it/nclun0x5032e1.png?width=1234&format=png&auto=webp&s=689f0304378cc4c253d6cb2972aa06fd3ec8447d Trying to re-create this super distorted look for an upcoming shoot with the Sigma 15mm 1.4 Fisheye lens on my Sony A6700. However I’m unsure of how the crop factor will influence the distortion. The photographer of this shot(@lin…
LPT: When crop dusting, begin the release before the pass. If you observe the airplanes that dump water over a wildfire, they release the tank early because the forward momentum carries the water ahead to more accurately hit the flames. Similarly, you should release the “tank” at least 1 – 2 strides before passing the intended recipient to ensure maximum coverage. If you time it right, they’ll be surro…
How to crop? I really don’t know how to crop this photo. What do you guys suggest? submitted by /u/al3x_mp4
Vintage lens on crop – not sharp, what can I do? So I have a Helios 44 58/2 and Jupiter-8 50/2, the latter just looks so good and is a joy to use. Both are popular because of their distinct look. I know for a fact that these two lenses ARE sharp, I’ve checked them on FF Sony and a film body (even the film scans are sharp). I’ve cleaned them, there’s no dust whatsoever, I’ve stopped down to f/8…
Crop sensor lens on a full frame A7Rii? Hi all!! I’m just getting back into photography as a hobby and picked up an A7Rii for a really good price with the 28-70mm kit lens. My question is that I’m looking to do some aircraft photography and would like a zoomier lens, and I’ve seen that crop sensor E mount lenses are much cheaper. I understand that my camera is full frame, and also has…
