LPT – when thawing out meat in the microwave, use the lowest power setting for a longer amount of time. My microwave has a defrost setting but it always leaves the meat much worse off than if I use 10% power instead. For 1lb of frozen ground beef, I put it on 10% power for 20 minutes. I try to flip half way through but It it’s fine if I don’t. It always comes out near perfect. This works for any type of frozen meat. submitted by /u/boobrand…

Ambulance kept billing a different amount than my insurance’s EOB, so I have been working with my insurance for months, but now it’s in collections… In September, I had an ambulance ride to a hospital for severe chest pain (25F). When the bill came, it was about $300 higher than what my insurance said I should be paying. I immediately called my insurance company the first time and they called the billing for EMS and it was discovered that EMS billing had made a mistake. My insurance told me …

LPT : If you want to lower the amount of time you use your phone, stop using fast charging.

LPT : If you want to lower the amount of time you use your phone, stop using fast charging. If you switch to the slowest possible charging methods for your phone then over time you’ll have to get used to just using your phone less to not drain the battery or else be forced to camp next to the charger (use a shorter cable if you wanna make it harder to do this). This will generally never affect anything in your life outside of home too…

Credit card interest rates are based on avg daily balances (rather than the amount not paid by due date)

Credit card interest rates are based on avg daily balances (rather than the amount not paid by due date) Maybe this is common knowledge but it’s counterintuitive to me / I just learned about it today. From the credit card statement fine print: “To figure your periodic interest charges for each billing cycle when a monthly periodic rate(s) applies, we use the average daily balance method (including new transactions).” So, in my last billing cycle, m…

LPT Before paying off hospital bills, call billing to ask for a reduction in the amount. I had a baby recently and the cost from the hospital was pretty high, I was telling a friend about it and she told me that she always negotiates the price down by calling billing and asking for a cost reduction. I didn’t believe her until I called yesterday and asked if I could lower the cost. The woman on the phone didn’t hesitate, looked at e…

My check to myself bounced incorrectly, and the amount is now missing I wrote a check to myself from my SoFi Checking to my Credit Union account. The Credit Union bounced the check and says they didn’t get the money, but SoFi says the money was withdrawn by the Credit Union. Now my money is in neither account, and I don’t know what to do. Any advice? submitted by /u/LookAtThisFnGuy

Should I wait until I’m 65 to claim my pension even though I can claim it early at a reduced amount?

Should I wait until I’m 65 to claim my pension even though I can claim it early at a reduced amount? If I claim my pension at 65 I’d get about $12K a year. I can claim it early at 50 and I’d get a reduced amount of $6K a year. Some quick math tells me if I live to 80 I’d get the same $180K no matter if I waited until I was 65 or claimed early. In this situation, what would be the reason to wait until I’m 65? The only thing I can think of is if …

If you plan to make a lump sum payment on your mortgage, when would it be smarter to simply make the payment against your principal, as opposed to recasting with that amount?

If you plan to make a lump sum payment on your mortgage, when would it be smarter to simply make the payment against your principal, as opposed to recasting with that amount? Assuming you have the ability to do either, would it ever be smarter to not recast your mortgage and simply make the payment against your principal? As I’m currently thinking of it, the recast makes the most sense as you’d still be putting all that money into your principal, and you’d lower your minimum payment. You can keep paying at the origin…
