What newer albums from bands you like have been disappointments?

What newer albums from bands you like have been disappointments? I’ll go first: Metric’s “Formentera II” definitely sound like the B-sides to their earlier masterpiece with not much special on it, and Thirty Seconds to Mars recent release is a total departure from their previous work with only the final track being remotely good. Note: this question and thread is entirely subjective, so there are no wrong ans…

Strangest albums? Edit: a lot of people have said everywhere at the end of time by the caretaker and philosophy of the world by the shaggs, just so you know before you say it again I’d have to say salt by Khôrada is a strong contender. Aaron Gregory’s doing every vocal style at once, in fact someone could probably come up with an argument that despite how slow he…

What albums sound best VERY LOUD? (Aside from “aggressive” music)

What albums sound best VERY LOUD? (Aside from “aggressive” music) Trying to keep hard rock and metal out of the way, as well as a lot of hip hop, because they’re often just expected to be loud. At least in the past. I’m trying to find examples of albums that you might not expect to be so different at various volumes. I’m trying to think of individual albums that just hit an entirely different level when they’r…

What are some albums that really shine on good audio equipment?

What are some albums that really shine on good audio equipment? Short backstory: My dad is 71, lifelong rock n roll guy, big into high end (consumer) stereo in the 70’s and 80’s; we definitely grew up in a “music house”. He switched from records to CDs in the early 80’s, then like a lot of us, latched onto the convenience of Spotify once it gained traction. When he recently got some nice new speakers, we hoo…

What songs or albums, in retrospect, sound like an obvious suicide note or cry for help?

What songs or albums, in retrospect, sound like an obvious suicide note or cry for help? I’m listening to songs off of the first, last, and eponymous album by “Purple Mountains”, which I found out about in the same wikipedia article about David Berman that also mentions his suicide in 2019. Knowing that in advance of listening, it’s feels like every song is almost spelling it out. Lyrics like “And the end of all wanting, is all I’ve…

Deep and powerful songs from artists last albums

Deep and powerful songs from artists last albums With David Bowie and his magnificent Blackstar-album, which opened to me on the first day of release (in january 2016) as I listened to it dozens of times, the song Lazarus especially became instant classic and little did I known then that he would die in matter of couple days. So, now I think I want your recommendations and feelings of songs th…

Finally going to sit down and listen to a few classic albums, cover-to-cover. How would you rank these five? As you’ll be able to shortly gather, my music taste includes a pretty healthy helping of rock, varying in genre. I’ve heard some individual songs from these albums, but never the whole thing in any case. How would you rank these albums? Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel The Joshua Tree by U2 Rumours by Fleetwood Mac Revolver b…

Elbow Albums Ranked

Elbow Albums Ranked Elbow has been one of my newer all-time favorite bands recently. I listened to them casually for like ten years, but knowing there’s something special there. Offline music hoarders, do you keep whole albums even if you know you actively listen only to a part of it?

Offline music hoarders, do you keep whole albums even if you know you actively listen only to a part of it? I like collecting my music to my offline library. When I discover new music, I listen to the whole album and filter out those songs that I didn’t enjoy as much and I just delete them. Sometimes I regret this, but I don’t want to reserve so much space for the music I listen to so rarely. What is your system? submitted by /u/Pipettess

What studio albums can be considered “Greatest Hits” albums?

What studio albums can be considered “Greatest Hits” albums? Basically I am asking which regular albums put out by artists are so good that they are almost a “greatest hits” compilation. The way I see it, Third Eye Blind’s self-titled has a lot of their best songs on it, not taking anything away from their other albums, but the self-titled definitely has their most popular songs on it. Any others that you…

What are your favourite concept albums? I’ve just realised what a numpty I’ve been most of my life In the past Ive only been able to really appreciate songs for their stand-alone value, rather than the story they might tell as part of a broader concept. Alright, let’s be real: who’s a band that, despite being great, never really made one of those “perfect” albums? Not trying to hurt feelings, because I absolutely love these guys, but The Police would be a perfect example for me. Have I been sleeping on iconic albums? So to give my title some context; I’ve had “Have A Cigar” by Pink Floyd in my playlist for a long long time now. Hell, I knew more about their iconic album covers (TDSotM & WYWH) than their actual discography for some reason. I recently decided to listen…
