Anyone enjoy an entire album at one time anymore?

Anyone enjoy an entire album at one time anymore? I am an album listener and give the highest accolades to artists whose entire albums resonate with me. Anybody else have this listening experience anymore? Seems to be about the almighty single nowadays. When I hear a single I’ll dive deeper to hear more by the artist and the rest of their stuff is either entirely different, or just plain sucks….

What is the best Classic-Rock Influenced/sounding album by a band that emerged after the Classic Rock era?

What is the best Classic-Rock Influenced/sounding album by a band that emerged after the Classic Rock era? I’m using the more narrow definition of Classic Rock here. I’m talking about the huge rock bands from the 60s and 70s – e.g. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Stones, The Doors, 70s Aerosmith, Heart, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, etc. I know some people have started to claim that later bands like Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana, Pearl Jam (shit, I’ve even heard peo…

What’s the most out of place song on an album?

What’s the most out of place song on an album? I was listening to Mastodon’s Emperor of Sand album and realized how out of place “Show Yourself” is on the track list. Nothing against the song, but the whole rest of the album is thematic and has a heavier sound to it, while “Show Yourself” seems more like a one-off single than anything. Any other albums/songs where you get this feeling? …

Name an album you can listen to in its entirety without ever hitting “SKIP”.

Name an album you can listen to in its entirety without ever hitting “SKIP”. Off the top of my head the 1st one that comes to mind is Fleetwood Mac – Rumors. Released on my birthday in 1977, I was 9 years old. Now I’m 56 and this album never gets old. I could listen to each and every song and always get something new out of it, whether its the lyrics or the melody. And of course now that the Queen Christine has left this…

Name a debut album that you think everybody should have listened to at least once in their lives?

Name a debut album that you think everybody should have listened to at least once in their lives? The debut album for me that sticks in my mind is London Grammar – If You Wait. She has an amazing voice that goes along with some incredible and melodic electronic music mixed with live instruments. It came out in 2013 in the UK and reached number 2 but has since gone 2x platinum. submitted by /u/Frazer271009

Name an album that is generation-defining and that changed everything after its release What’s an album where people claim that nothing was the same after it was released, an album that not only shook up the music world going forward but that hugely impacted pop culture as well? Prompted by the post about musicians who leveled up between albums: let’s talk about the reverse! Who made an amazing album(s), then followed up with garbage?

Prompted by the post about musicians who leveled up between albums: let’s talk about the reverse! Who made an amazing album(s), then followed up with garbage? Maybe Dylan? Weezer? Stone Roses? U2? Many musicians have a slow decline across their career but I can’t think of anyone who released a brilliant record and then followed it up with something awful. submitted by /u/sansafiercer

Bands that had the biggest jump in quality from one album to the next?

Bands that had the biggest jump in quality from one album to the next? My go-to example is almost always Metallica from Kill ‘Em All > Ride the Lightning. I enjoy Kill ‘Em All for what it is but to me, Ride the Lightning is just light years ahead in songwriting and sound, to the point that it feels like a different band. Even Master of Puppets, despite arguably being the better album, doesn’t feel like as much of a…

What would you consider the best title track off any album of all time?

What would you consider the best title track off any album of all time? Hi all! Sorry if this gets asked frequently around here, but I was just feeling curious. I recently started binge listening to Metallica (again), and can’t help but to be blown away by Master Of Puppets every time I hear it, so it got me thinking/debating with myself. So, what do you all think? Doesn’t have to have super deep thought behind it o…

All Of Charli XCX’s Car References In Her New Album Brat

( jalopnik.com )

All Of Charli XCX’s Car References In Her New Album Brat Charli XCX is the queen of putting out bangers with excellent car references in her lyrics, and even songs that are mainly about cars. I mean, just look at her songs “Vroom Vroom,” “White Mercedes,” “Porsche,” “Backseat” and the track “Speed Drive” that was featured in the Barbie movie. It’s especially fitting that… Read more…

Just listened to the album “Laughing Stock” by Talk Talk for the first time in one sitting and I’m officially sad forever now Something about the minimalistic, open-feeling nature of this album really just hits me in my feels man. What’s an album you consider to be great but doesn’t have any particular standout tracks?

What’s an album you consider to be great but doesn’t have any particular standout tracks? I was thinking about this in the context of Nick Drake’s “Pink Moon”, which is one of my two or three favorite albums of all time. However, I don’t know if there’s a single song that I would put into a list of my favorite songs of all time; the sum of the parts just kind of make for a brilliant record.
