50k in debt @ age 27 making $20/hr… Chapter 7? I am 27 years old living with my grandmother in ~50k of some maxed out nastiness. I have a credit score of ~650. I now make 20/hr working at a grocery store overnight and have been pulling 60s weekly so I can get in on some temporarily offered overtime.. My min payments come out to about 2k/mo. With 60hr weeks at my job I am making ~4k/mo, wit…

I tried the 80/20 budgeting rule and didn’t have enough money for bills or other essentials. Now what?

I tried the 80/20 budgeting rule and didn’t have enough money for bills or other essentials. Now what? I put away 20% of my paycheck for savings, something I had never done before. After rent, paying one bill, and buying groceries, I had $200 left for the remaining 2 weeks until my next paycheck. I don’t drive; I walk everywhere or take my town’s free public transit. LPT: What financial tips should I follow now that I’m 20?

LPT: What financial tips should I follow now that I’m 20? I turn 20 in a couple of days, and I realize I have almost no financial knowledge of how to properly save and invest and other things like that. Right now I just throw 20 bucks into my reserve account every week (I get 15hr/weekly) to “save” but that’s all I do. Any advice? submitted by /u/Tricky_Entertainer34

How realistic is the 50/30/20 rule?

How realistic is the 50/30/20 rule? Even when I was savings somewhat aggressively, I only managed a 30% savings rate, which included pre-tax 401k and HSA contributions. The other 70% went to “needs”: rent, utilities, food, car, gas, insurance, etc. I live in a MCOL area and make 30% over the median individual income. I have a roommate. I spent almost nothing on wants. Maybe 5% or…
