Will an enhanced state ID allow me to drive far into Mexico or just within the border zone? I just got invited last minute to go to Mexico with some friends – they’re driving across the border in Arizona and then renting a car in Mexico. I do have a valid passport but I don’t have it on me at the moment. I do have an enhanced state ID that is supposed to allow me to cross the border by car, but I’m a little cautious about whether they …
How to tell “travel stories”? I work a job where I work one on one with clients and there’s a lot of talking and storytelling, so whenever I travel, when I come back they always ask me you know how was such and such place. And I’m usually so good with my storytelling in my job, but for some reason talking about my travel experience is really challenging. Travel for me comes …
Anyone else notice an increase of travelers asking how “not to be a tourist” on social media? I have never understood this fear of being seen as what you are (we’re all tourists when we’re traveling and cannot, by definition, be a local in a new place.) This whole “I am so much more sophisticated than those OTHER annoying tourists” attitude reeks of snobbism. EDIT to add that I do understand that many do not want to be seen as the stereo…
have you ever asked a hotel to do something special for a birthday? my sister and her boyfriend are heading to a few US cities later this year (we’re from the UK) with pretty much a full day of travel on their way to New Orleans falling on my sisters birthday. So basically my question is would it be weird or an inconvenience if I contacted their hotel to see if they could arrange for something special to be wait…
Travel to Tokyo alone? A friend and I was supposed to travel to Tokyo in October. Booked the flight 6 months ago. Japan is very high on my bucket list. Just learned that he is not able to go. Should I travel alone or cancel? submitted by /u/ATCollider
Merzouga tour Can anyone recommend a budget friendly 3 day tour starting at Marrakesh to Merzouga including overnight camping and ending at Fez? The prices on Get Your Guide are around $180-$190. I thought it was a bit high since I saw others get their tour for under $100. submitted by /u/curioustreez

How do you choose where to go?? I know this is a first world problem but I’ve been agonizing for a month over this. I only have so much PTO and it takes me a solid year or two to save for a big trip. I want to take a trip next year, either to Portugal or Ireland. I went to Ireland last year and fell in love with everything I saw and encountered, I made friends there that I’m s…
Mallorca – medieval market and coastal landscape This was the medieval looking market in Sineu in central Mallorca which occurs weekly. The last two pictures were taken at the east coast. The beach we visited still contained cristal clear water, other beaches in Mallorca sadly lost their caribbean looking water due to overtourism. submitted by /u/aenni_anna

Which places have you hired tour guides (museums, landmarks, etc) and what has been your experience? Which do you recommend (esp for unexpected locations)? I never really thought of hiring a tour guide in a museum but I was in a museum in peru/lima and I overheard the guide a family had hired and it made me realize I should have hired one myself. I usually am more fond of audio than reading (it seems I should also consider audio self-guided tours if offered to try at least once). I asked in a Chi…
Is this a terrible idea? SA + Eswatini + Lesotho self drive solo Hey everyone, I have an upcoming trip booked with G Adventures going from Cape Town up to Nairobi. I have about 2 weeks free before the trip and I’m thinking of flying into Johannesburg, renting a car and road-tripping Kruger NP, Eswatini and Lesotho. Would then return the car and fly to Cape Town for my G Adventures trip. Not planning on spend…
Have airlines and people gotten significantly worse over the past 5 years? Im not sure if I’m the only one but i feel airlines and people on planes have gotten so bad and out of control. I used to travel for work and never had issues really with people and the airlines always seemed to try. Now people will constantly kick you seat, spill things on you, blast movies and music with no headphones, don’t respect the seat s…

Cutting holiday short due to death of our dog Without going in too much detail: our dog of 12 years got euthanized yesterday in our arms when we were on a hiking travel in Norway. She was diagnosed with an agressive form of cancer of which you only see the symptons when its too late. Now ofcourse we are both devastated and we also dont know what to do. We dont have the energy to keep on hik…
Best cities in Europe to go to in January/December? So I’m looking at planning a trip for January, probably leaving the first week of the year. I’m from Ireland, and am looking to go somewhere in mainland europe. I plan a full inter-rail next summer anyway, but I’d like to do a winter trip too, and things seem a bit cheaper! January is ideal as I have exam period up until just before christmas (…

I’ve never done this before, can someone please break down the process from getting off my flight to getting the car rental. I need baby steps lol I’m an idiot when it comes to this submitted by /u/metalf4c3
Has anyone become a tad bored of typical travel? I’ve been in Georgia and Armenia for the past couple weeks. While there have been some good moments for sure – the 4 day hike through the Caucasus been easily been the highlight – just going from place to place looking at different sights (some quite impressive) just doesn’t quite do it for me anymore. My last few bigger trips have all been bike…
Trip insurance is more expensive than I thought! My husband and I (73 yo) are traveling from the US to Germany in the next few weeks, where we’ll rent a car and explore the country. We don’t usually get travel insurance, but it seems like a good idea this time. I didn’t realize it would be so expensive to cover the car, flights, and hotels. The quote I got from Allianz was about $1700. Is that…
