What’s your best tips and tricks for packing light?

What’s your best tips and tricks for packing light? I hate having to pay for extra luggage, and it’s totally possible to travel with just a carry on. So what do you do to save space while travelling? My most recent trick is take wash strips, meaning I can pack less clothes but still be able to wash them. submitted by /u/CombinationLoud789

Are you an airport coffee person or an airport alcohol person, and why?

Are you an airport coffee person or an airport alcohol person, and why? I’ve always been a “beer at the airport” kind of person because it feels like my trip has already started. I love coffee, but the idea of getting the tummy grumbles or forcing myself awake for long flights seems counterintuitive. submitted by /u/Higgz221

Looking for a 1 week destination in / around Europe for late Nov / Early December

Looking for a 1 week destination in / around Europe for late Nov / Early December I (25M) love history, culture, and nature. I know this doesn’t narrow it down. I would also like it if it wasn’t freezing. A bit chilly is ok. So far on my list I have Cyprus, Tunisia, Jordan, Azores, and southern Italy. I did Crete last November and loved it. Would love to go to Egypt but feel like 1 week is not long enough for it. I am Spanish…

Can you recommend me a 4 days trip to Australia besides Sydney?

Can you recommend me a 4 days trip to Australia besides Sydney? Hello! I’m a 27-year-old Korean. Can you recommend some Australian travel destinations suitable for a solo trip of about 4 days for a guy in his 20s? I originally planned a 7-day itinerary with a friend. We were supposed to arrive in Australia in early October and return in mid-October. The plan was to spend 4 days in Sydney and 3 days in Uluru….

Ireland – best countryside towns

Ireland – best countryside towns Hello! I’m going to be in Ireland mid November. I’ll be in Dublin for 2 nights and then have 2 nights to explore elsewhere. Since I’ll already be in a city, I’m tempted to stay in a town/village that feels more country. But not too long of a travel day from Dublin since I’ll have to return to Dublin to fly back out of to the states. Shannon wasn…

Pre-travel regret – will Belize be too expensive? What are some cheaper alternatives?

Pre-travel regret – will Belize be too expensive? What are some cheaper alternatives? My husband and I are traveling to Belize in February. We have hotels and flights booked for 8 nights. Hotels are refundable and the flights are Southwest, which we use frequently, so we’re not worried about cancelling those tickets and having the credits. This was a vacation we were excited for and didn’t mind spending a bit of money for. That i…

I’ve got a one way ticket to Miami booked in a few weeks. Where do I go after that?

I’ve got a one way ticket to Miami booked in a few weeks. Where do I go after that? I’m in my late 20’s, from Toronto, and heading down to Miami for a cruise with a friend of mine in mid-october. I got laid off recently and have a ton of time on my hands, so I’ve decided to extend my trip a little bit, but I’ve got no idea where to go. I’d like to fly somewhere warm in miami, before swinging up to NY for a couple days towards t…

How many hours before your flight do you arrive at the airport for international flights and at which airport?

How many hours before your flight do you arrive at the airport for international flights and at which airport? I noticed that the 3 hours recommendation for arriving at an airport for an international flight can be an overkill on some airports and just right for others. What’s your experience on this? submitted by /u/Electronic_Karma

How do you manage weather dependant travel plans?

How do you manage weather dependant travel plans? I was planning a sightseeing trip for my parents to view the mountainous landscape of BC Canada in about 2 weeks but apparently, October is a notoriously rainy/cloudy season and would most likely ruin our plans. It was the only time our schedules aligned unfortunately I’m currently in the process of booking the hotel, rental car, event tickets, …

Do you still need to do your ESTA permit and get rejected even if you got your tourist visa to USA as a Hungarian not born in Hungary?

Do you still need to do your ESTA permit and get rejected even if you got your tourist visa to USA as a Hungarian not born in Hungary? If the airline tells you to get your ESTA permit to USA yet you know you’ll get rejected because you’re a Hungarian passport holder (and not born in Hungary gets you automatically rejected), do you still have to do it? Or will presenting the tourist visa suffice at the check-in counter? submitted by /u/krowster

Like how not pronouncing “Houston Street” as “How-sten” flags you as a tourist in NYC, what flags you as a tourist to the locals in other major cities?

Like how not pronouncing “Houston Street” as “How-sten” flags you as a tourist in NYC, what flags you as a tourist to the locals in other major cities? I guess another notable example in ANY major city is by holding a map of that area. But that’s getting to be an outdated way to tell someone’s a tourist because we have Google / Apple Maps on our phones now, or we could download maps of specific areas to our phones as well. But what ways that are still pretty common, can you tell whether someone…

Do locals actually not care about foreigners using their language??

Do locals actually not care about foreigners using their language?? It’s a truism repeated in every Lonely Planet or Fodors guidebook that if you learn a few words of the local language then you’ll be treated better/respected more etc. by local people. It’s something I took to heart and have always tried to learn some basic words and phrases wherever I go (more for longer trips). However I was reading a thread t…

Bogota was my first taste of Latin America and it did not disappoint

Bogota was my first taste of Latin America and it did not disappoint I spent more than a year trying to decide what city I should visit in Latin America. I vacillated mostly between the major cities of Mexico and Colombia. I finally settled on Bogota due to overall affordability and I’m glad I did–despite all the negative things I’d read about it. After visiting a week and a half I returned home thinking: The …

Is driving in Turkey a good idea or worth it?

Is driving in Turkey a good idea or worth it? I have driven in Morocco and iceland before. Manual transmissions are no issue for me and I adapt easily to high traffic environments and terrain. In iceland I drove through blizzards with a small car that had studded tires and in Morocco I drove through the insane tight streets of Marrakech and the desert highways in the south. I am going to tu…

Flying vs taking train from Spain to France (no train experience, little travel experience)

Flying vs taking train from Spain to France (no train experience, little travel experience) End of October I am deciding whether to take a train with 3 changes from Spain to France or to pay for a flight. Train is cheaper and I’ve never done a “real” train ride (or used one by myself) so I’d love to, but I don’t know how to use the train and my anxiety is telling me I’ll miss my connecting rides. What is the railway system like in Euro…

Do Schengen Authorities Know How Long You’ve Spent in a Given EU Country Let’s say I’ve been given a Type-C (Tourist Visa) valid for 30 days by France. However I arrived in Munich and spent 7 days there, went to Copenhagen spent 10 days there, went to Paris for 7 days and Rome for 3 days. Always keep a safety pin/sim eject tool in handy with you

Always keep a safety pin/sim eject tool in handy with you Title. Will help immensely for frequent travellers. I just got a new sim delivered and have been searching the entire room for 2 hours, but I still couldn’t manage to get a safety pin for installation. I went through the same situation at Delhi Airport, where the sim stopped receiving signals, so I had to approach a ground staff for her nametag …
