My truck got hit, the driver ran. I have dash cam footage and a plate number, but I only have liability insurance. What can I do? The damage to the car includes the front bumper and the front left fender, plus other plastic pieces. I know liability only covers me if I’m at fault, but is there anything else I can/should do? Edit: My state is Ohio submitted by /u/trick_room
Can I pay my car loan twice in one month I have already paid for this month (January) on the 21st, but just got my tax returns and wanted to also cover next month (February) today January 29th. Capital gains taxes for co-owner? I co-owned a house with my mom in California. Both of us were on the mortgage and title. We got it in September 2019 and we sold it in April 2024. The house was worth 250,000 when we got it. I never made mortgage payments, she did. It was sold for 380,000 to Opendoor. The mortgage wasn’t paid off, but it was paid off when Opendoor purchased it. …

Sell or keep my car loan I am halfway through my 72 month car loan and want an opinion on if I should sell the car or bite the bullet and continue paying. I know it’s a crazy interest rate and I tried refinancing but most banks don’t refinance vehicles this old. I currently owe 24k left and I have an offer from a dealership for 23k. 1k and I would be done with the loan …
Trying to help my brother out with high monthly payments on truck loan. Trying to help my brother out. He has a car loan with payout of $16,014 and around 18% apr. The monthly payments are $605 and with other bills he doesn’t want to have the truck anymore and wants a regular sedan with a smaller monthly payment. What’s his best option? submitted by /u/Luna_R_T
Help with car loan ? Here’s a situation I’m dealing with where I can’t figure out how to get out of. During Covid I bought I car that I really liked but it was overpriced due to the state of the world wanting used cars at the time. I still owe about 20k on it which I agreed to but the thing is now there seem to be issues with it- electrical and mechanical. I took it…
Won Credit Card Dispute! Hello! I have a question regarding a credit card dispute. Long story short I ordered 3 white appliances from a company in February 2024. They all arrived in October 2024 (fridge, range, and dishwasher). However they were each a different shade of white. The company said their online photos were photoshopped blah blah. I was told I could pay a 3…
Should I keep on saving or pay off debt? Hey everyone! So, I make around $5900 per month which is a very, very good salary where I live. I have made a loooooot of dumb financial decisions in my life and right now I owe around $30k (CCs, small loans,…). I started to get serious in the last year or so and started saving. Right now I have finally saved $30k which sounds just about right…
401k vesting question Hi yall! This might not be the place to ask. My company’s 401k policy is 6% match (100% vested) & 4% match that’s vested after 3 years. I’m about 2.5 years in, but looking to leave at my 3 year mark. Today I opened fidelity, and it says vested balance = $10k, 100% vested in the 4% account (it’s separate from my fully vested account). It used to …
Adding sister to credit card to build her credit I’m not sure how adding my sister to my credit card works. Does it help her credit score? Does it hurt mine if hers is low? Mine is 650 and rising but my younger sister’s credit is too young for her to get her own credit card. She has the credit builder accounts but I would like to help her get it up quicker as she is always worrying about it. W…
First time attempting to get an auto loan but insane rates. Please help. So I am attempting to buy an older used car (just barely older than 10 years old) that has always caught my eye but wanted to take a financing route for this one. Every other car I owned I bought with cash even if it was kinda pricy. Might be tmi but my credit score is around the 730-750 range so I thought in today’s economy a loan would be at …
Should I sell RSU lump sum or over time? I had RSUs from my last company that kinda forgot about. They’ve fully vested and I don’t see the company value soaring in the future. I’m comfortable with the gains these RSUs have made already. I’d rather reinvest this money elsewhere and diversify. I just learned that RSUs are taxed as shares vest, if I understand correctly? So now I will fal…
How much should I put down for my 401k? My company match is 4% but I’ve heard financial gurus to go for 15-20% Hello! My company match is 4% and I learned that’s how much my money will double when I contribute the percentage on my 401k. But I heard financial advisors to go for the 15-20%. I also had my boyfriend tell me that since I’m contributing and my company match so as well then it is 8% in total. If my company match is 4% and I contribute 24% s…

Grandmas finances are a mess I’ve been learning about finances the past couple of years since starting my career (21M), still living with my mom, brother, and grandmother. Last November, I found a delinquent Medicare bill for my 81-year-old grandmother, over $10K in unpaid premiums, threatening to cut off her coverage if not paid. My mom and I scrambled to pay it, but the s…
Write a check to myself from an estate bank account? My uncle died in 2023. I am the administrator of his estate, and his sole living heir. I only recently was able to withdraw the funds from his personal checking account and deposit them in his estate bank account. In the interim, I held services for him, had to hire two attorneys and a CPA, and have had a number of other expenses related to his …
I have cash for a car. Dealer is offering $500 off if I get loan. If I’m going to pay it off immediately with no prepayment penalty, is it worth it for $500 discount? In other words, if I get a $50k loan and pay it off as soon as my loan account is set up, am I paying anything other than $50k? submitted by /u/CarminSanDiego
