Farmhouse Sink Help We’re looking to remodel the kitchen and have opted for a farmhouse style sink as we both cook tremendously and would appreciate the extra room. However, given the styling of the soon-to-be kitchen, I’m struggling with sink choices. We are opting for a white top cabinet/dark blue bottom cabinet with primary white marble countertops and backsplas…
Help me pick a color I have a lot of wall to cover. Looking for help with what I’ve narrowed it down to. This room is naturally dark since the only window is the sliding glass door. Looking to brighten it with highly light reflective paint and tile. The white in the middle is a white white and my ceiling and trim color. This is the tile I selected. The paint will be…
Cabinet Colors for Orangey Hardwood Hi all – I have orangey hardwoods and we are redoing our kitchen. The hardwoods are throughout the entire house so sanding and refinishing is financially restrictive. I want to go with a mushrooms Taupe on my cabinets but I don’t know much about color theory. Does anyone have any feedback on picking the right tone help decrease the orange in the…
How to decorate basement? How do people feel about our new basement? Wife & I recently bought a 1965 built home with this finished basement. Floor is 100% slate (!) and there’s some cool prominent granite walls near the pool table and at the base of the stairs. The design/feel of the basement can feel kind of “cold” per se. I feel like that may be primarily driven by th…
New living room, how to position furniture and TV? We’re moving into a new house in a few weeks and can’t workout how to organise this living room to best use the space and enjoy the windows onto the garden. I’m now thinking to mount the TV above the fireplace and having it hanging low just above the fireplace (so it’s not too high), and having a large sectional sofa across the wall by the stair…
Why do I loathe this SO much? Just reading my favorite column – The Hunt – in NYT over lunch. Does anyone else hate this room so much you just want to kick the architect in the shins? It’s not just the tile or the unnecessarily sunken living room. The entrance to the hallway, the columns, and don’t even get my started on whatever the hell is happening on the ceiling. I haven…
How to make the big sectional couch look okay with an eclectic or midcentury modern design? These pictures are from the house listing so the only things remaining in the living room are the big leather coach and the grey curtains. The curtains I’d be happy to replace. We’ve lived in our house for a couple years and have finally reached the point where I can start redecorating rooms with intention rather than filling them with unmatche…
Need to replace risers and treads on my staircase, should I use a stain that splits the difference between my floor and bannister? The floors at the top and bottom are light. I’d like to keep the bannister and newel post as they are in really good condition. Wall color is staying. I’m thinking of splitting the difference stain wise and white risers, but I’m an engineer, not a an interior designer The treads got hacked all up for the previous owner to throw a carpet on. Sugg…
Is this space warm, cool or an unfortunate mix? This is my new rental living/dining area which I need to furnish. I’m leaning toward an Organic Modern style in my mind but I want an opinion on the best design style. I like modern, boho, scandi and biophilic styles. My question is, If I go warm neutrals/beiges will the stone and floor always fight that? Are they cool or warm undertones? Trying…
East Hampton compound; interiors designed by Neal Beckstedt In one family’s Long Island compound, two hallmarks of Hamptons architecture stand side by side—a 19th-century Shingle Style saltbox festooned with hydrangeas (they call it the farmhouse) and its super-modern foil, heavy on the glass, by New York City firm Architecture Outfit. No ledge for blinds to rest I️ have sound proof windows that come to the wall (no depth) and there is no frame either. Clearly any blinds will have to be outside mounted ones but I’m uncertain which type of privacy blinds would work well given those conditions and the size. Is it a good idea to get privacy blinds that will just hang heavily on its own rather than a ledge?…

How can I find a student internship? Hello! I am an architecture and interior design student, and I will begin my sophomore year this year. I am seeking an interior design student internship. How can I find one, and is a portfolio necessary? Any advice would help me a lot! submitted by /u/Visual_Suggestion191
How big is TOO big for a rug I know that this subs typical advice is essentially “the bigger the better” when it comes to rugs, which I agree with, but I am in a bit of a predicament. Me and my fiancé are planning the apartment we are moving into when we get married next month. The bedroom is 11 feet by 13 feet. I made a bit of a hasty call and under the advice of “bigger …
Couch choices pt2 Hey everyone, I posted earlier and I think I may have settled on my couch and chair just wanting thoughts on this color combo, (the last 2 photos are the staged apartment) submitted by /u/weeiniehutjrsupreme

Comparing kitchen designs from 2 different suppliers Hello there, We have received a design from 2 different suppliers for our apartment in Europe. The unpractical thing is that we want our washing machine and our dryer in the kitchen. We have tried several set ups but this design where both machines are under the seems to be the most optimal because of the bigger worktop as a result. The first pi…
