Help! Staircase + Matching Flooring

Help! Staircase + Matching Flooring Hello! I could really use expert advice. Our main floor has cherrywood hardwood floors. Our staircase is slightly less red. However, our upstairs flooring is all carpeted. We are going to remove the carpet but we don’t know what colour floor to put down that will match the staircase. In the picture, the little strip of wood is our hardwood floo…

Would it be a bad idea to ‘close concept’ our house?

Would it be a bad idea to ‘close concept’ our house? This is our secondary living/dining room. Currently the official dining area is used as an office, and our table is in the living space. We rarely use the space because we eat at the kitchen island, but eventually (with kids) we will use the table and I’d prefer it be directly off the kitchen for easy access. Originally we were going to add Fre…

Who’s fault?

Who’s fault? Building a home and hired an interior designer. For the flooring in one large area the design team selected a specific tile. They showed us a sample of it and we approved it trusting in the team. The tile was laid on the floor and it looked horrendous. Unanimously everyone including the design team said it needed to be torn out. After much effor…

Do they make waterproof window curtains?

Do they make waterproof window curtains? I had some tile work done and the repair guy said my window was tiled improperly near the bottom window seal. It was fixed but also mentioned potentially getting shower curtains to cover the window to prevent this problem from happening again. What type of shower curtains are waterproof? submitted by /u/TheAnthemAdventurer

Large Living Room, one large rug? Multiple? Any other suggestions?

Large Living Room, one large rug? Multiple? Any other suggestions? Hey guys, we just moved into our first house coming from an 1,100 square foot condo. We haven’t bought any new furniture yet, and the furniture that once totally filled out smaller living room looks kind of silly now. We are looking for a bigger couch, a different entertainment stand, etc. what are our options for floor decor? Would one large ru…

Micro kitchen design help

Micro kitchen design help What do you think of this solution? This is the second kitchen in the house, and the open walls lead to the living room, so it’s not possible to add a breakfast bar. Since the kitchen is tiny, some sacrifices had to be made. For example, to have a small fridge, I opted for a portable induction cooktop, which also frees up more counter space. The…

Plant ledge suggestions?

Plant ledge suggestions? Does anyone else have these plant ledges and actually put plants up there? There isn’t much light but some spaces have plugs so I’m thinking about adding some grow lighting and keeping the plants in self watering containers. Has anyone done this before? Any tips/suggestions? Also, I prefer to not use fake plants because I practice feng shui and…

Rug Advice for Grey Flooring

Rug Advice for Grey Flooring Hello, I am looking for some ideas on a rug for my recently floored room. The tiles are grey, but as you can see, most of the furniture is light in colour. I was thinking of going for an ivory or cream patterned rug. I am not that great at getting colours to compliment, so would be grateful of any advice. I want the rug to go under the coffee t…

Layout where to put the desk (1, 2 or 3)?

Layout where to put the desk (1, 2 or 3)? I’m about to move to a new apartment and I’m struggling with the layout. My furniture for sure fits in the new place as it’s bigger but I can’t seem to figure out where to put my desk so as not to divide the space in a strange way. So far my options are: as in the picture (best option so far) the desk in the upper right corner against the wall….

Interior designer proposal. Is this customary?

Interior designer proposal. Is this customary? Hello all. I am a client and I wanted to engage an interior designer. I looked on Houzz and saw some work of an ID that made me think I’d be comfortable enough to work with her. Meaning her work all didn’t look the same but was varied, by the client. I looked her up, I saw that she was affiliated with DDI Long story short, we met and she provide…
