Is there a large difference between f1.4 and f2.8 FF 23mm in terms of low-light performance?

Is there a large difference between f1.4 and f2.8 FF 23mm in terms of low-light performance? I’m asking as a newcomer to photography. I just bought a Sony a7cr with an expensive kit lens that has f2.8 Sony FE 23mm. I’m living here in the cold wintry north where it is dark for 7 months a year and rains horizontally 12 months a year (overcast a lot) and think I need more light. I can get a Sigma 24mm f1.4 for 800 dollars or a Sony GM II f…

Which beginners camera would you buy a 16 year old?

Which beginners camera would you buy a 16 year old? My niece is 16 and is a fantastic artist. She recently won a local photography contest using just her iPhone 15 and I’d love to buy her a camera for Christmas. ( www.reddit.com )

What do you sit or lay down on to take low angle shots on the beach or muddy locations? I have no problem laying down on my stomach to get a low angle photo but it’s usually on dry ground. I have a small sit pad for rocks but I need something for environments like a seashore. I can get some dirt on my pants and coat but I don’t need algae, seaweed, fish guts and whatever other muck there is on my car seats. Is there some kind of ca…
