Digital camera recommendation’s for beginners? Hey all, I’m completely new to photography and looking to buy my partner a gift. She notes she’s interested in the canon G7X MK 2, she’s completely beginner as well and likes the camera as she’s seen a lot of hype and her friends all adore it. Is buying a Nikon Lens from 2009 a bad choice?

Is buying a Nikon Lens from 2009 a bad choice? I am stuck between the Nikkor 70-200 f2.8G vrii that was released in 2009 and the Tamrom 70-200 f2.8 G2 which was released in 2017. I would love a more recent lens with modern technology, but I’ve heard that the 2009 lens is not that old and still performs well over the 2017 tamrom. Also the tamrom receives updates, I’m not sure the Nikkor does….

Tips for taking photos inside a forest? Went to Yosemite recently, and found myself having troubles composing photos while hiking. Everything seemed too chaotic with trees everywhere. I did some close-ups of tree trunks/moss, but that was it. submitted by /u/totallyastick

Novice question.. practically speaking how much better is f1.4 vs f2.8 for in home candid photos?

Novice question.. practically speaking how much better is f1.4 vs f2.8 for in home candid photos? I have a Sony a6100 with the kit lens. Realizing that even though our house feels bright with lots of windows, most of the time it’s too dark for the kit lens to get a good image without an iso of 5000+. So I’ve learned I need a new lens (or use flash but I’m a novice taking candid pics of my toddler playing and so don’t care too much about hav…

Question about optical zoom on iPhones?

Question about optical zoom on iPhones? Hi all, I hope it’s ok to post this here, and that the flair I chose is also the right one. I’ve also posted on apple-dedicated subs, but thought it might be worth giving it a shot here as well. TL;DR: Apple’s website claims the iPhone 15 Plus has “0.5x, 1x, and 2x optical zoom,” but multiple Apple reps have said the 2x zoom is “high-quality di…

Differences in exposure in live view and final image?

Differences in exposure in live view and final image? I recently got a Nikon coolpix b700 for Christmas and have been loving it except for one feature. When I adjust the aperture or shutter speed, the brightness/exposure of my image is not the same as the photo I take. It can be perfectly bright in the preview, and then complete darkness in the actual photo. Is this a feature of the camera, or some…

How to shoot people? I’m getting into street photography, and I want to take more photos of people out in the streets, the only thing is … I’m scared, and I don’t know quite how to approach it. How do you do it? Do I ask them? Do I just do it? What if they have an issue with me? Will I seem like a creep stopping in the middle of the street to capture a moment I thin…
