Speaking for myself, Frasier was a brilliant character in the old show because he intentionally was the worst and most unlikable character, and everyone else in the show was a foil, almost a Greek Chorus (really channeling Frasier in this sentence) for Frasier's intentionally absurd levels of arrogance and cluelessness. Martin, Daphne, Roz, etc...
