My father died, do I need to file taxes for him? Hi, my dad died at the end of September, will I (next of kin/oldest child) have to file taxes for him? A little background: He was on disability, wasn't married, he has no assets, he had basically nothing. After he died I did find out he owes 12k to the state of Alabama & about 20k to the IRS. Just assuming this is from him clearing out his 401k...
