For those 59.5 and older, is there any reason not to make every IRA distribution a Roth conversion? Since the 5 year lockup no longer applies when you hit 59.5 years old, a Roth IRA account can be used as a tax free brokerage account. After the tax for the distribution is paid, the money grows tax free forever. Is there any reason not to do a Roth conversion for all IRA distributions?
