You still get the full free trial period, but you'll never forget and accidentally pay for any subscriptions you don't actually want App Store > Account (tap on your profile pic) > Subscriptions. You even get a nice reassuring message under the cancel button that'll say something like "If you cancel now, you can still access your subscription until ."
