Large Down Payment on Used Car? Yes or no? In theory…a car’s total cost (after doc fees, tax,etc.) is $22,500. I have $18,500 cash I can put down for this vehicle. Would it be dumb to finance the remaining balance ($4k)? I have excellent credit and would want to pay off the vehicle as soon as possible.
