How do I get out of severe debt? Coming from someone who knows nothing about finance. Hi. I'm 21, live in NYC and have been severe debt since July of 2021. I had surgery when I was 18 which cost $20,000. I wasn't able to pay it, so they sent it to a debt collector and they added an extra $10,000. Americollect shows it as $38,000.
