What happened of the "invisible characters" that used to be in sit-coms? I've been rewatching some old sit-coms from the 90's and early 2000's recently and it struck me how many of them have invisible characters. People who are always spoken about but are always just off screen, in the other room, on vacation etc. It seemed to be such a trend for a long time and no one does it anymore.
