Examples of rock/metal/electronica subgenres that were performed by very few artists? One that springs to my mind is trip rock. The only somewhat popular band that recorded music that gets called trip rock was Dutch band The Gathering, I can be wrong on that but ... I think it was them who coined the name for it even. Their album Souvenirs released in 2003 is my favourite off them after they stopped making metal music in late 90s...
