Ups delivered package; customer claims didn’t arrive; most likely stolen; estimated loss with refund @$300

Ups delivered package; customer claims didn't arrive; most likely stolen; estimated loss with refund @$300 How do you guys handle this situation? It's not our fault and it's HIGHLY unlikely UPS is lying. What of the customer service hit I would take if I refuse to take responsibility for the loss? Should I ask the customer to file a police report? Any advice or pointers is appreciated.
