Does your equipment have sentimental value to you? I sent in a pair of hiking boots that has a minor defect under warranty and they ended up just sending back a new pair.... And I'm a bit bummed. I think I'd have rather kept the old, broken shoes that went on trips with me than have these anonymous new shoes Rationally I know I lucked out getting a lair of new shoes and they'll become my shoes ...
