My elderly, disabled parents, were just told by an HVAC specialist that their AC is beyond repairs and that they will need a new unit costing around $7000 dollars.

They have been living paycheck to paycheck and cannot afford the new unit. I also cannot afford to replace the unit. Does anyone have any advice on what we can do next?
