I was just curious and went to the US state department website to see about travel warnings for places I've been and places I'm considering visiting. I was surprised to learn that Costa Rica, Peru, and Belize - three countries where I felt incredibly safe traveling around by bus, in taxis, on foot, etc were "level 2: exercise increased caution" ...
