LPT: Invest a percentage of all cash gifts your child receives in the stock market for them Since my son was born in 2001, I invested about 80% of his birthday, Christmas, graduation, etc gift money in various stocks. It taught him the power of compound interest. He really enjoyed following the market and watching his money grow. That money is over $50k now. My son is very grateful that we didn't let him blow it on junk.
