Buying a standalone duplex (no HoA) with my brother: good or bad idea? So the house we're looking at is a duplex, zoned for two families. It's $1.2 million. I live in a VVVHCOL areas, and this is just the cheapest house (even fixer uppers) unless the house has protected tenants that cannot be evicted. This one is actually quite nearly renovated, too.
