LPT: Don’t assume the suggested tip amounts at the bottom of a restaurant bill were calculated correctly. Tip are supposed to be calculated against the pre-tax subtotal, but often restaurants include the tax in the calculations to pad the tip. Sometimes they just flat out make up numbers.

edit: this is not a commentary on tipping culture. I'm simply pointing out that the math is often incorrect on bills, and they are never in your favor.
