Is the police super lenient with the family in Malcolm in the middle or was it just the times? I'm watching MITM for the first time and I'm just shocked with what the members of the family get away with especially when the police get involved. In today's world they would have all wound up in jail many times over or simply shot The show is 20+ years old so I have to ask: was society really that lenient back then or this is just TV magic?
